Dear internet world:
What happened? I’ve been away more than usual…touchy internet connection. I came back and everyone got all fancy on me. I’m looking at popsicles with black pepper in them and wondering if I didn’t get the memo.
I haven’t been fancy lately.
I’ve been enjoying cold-brewed coffee with cream, oatmeal with honey, tomatoes with balsamic. I eat on a mattress on the floor because I don’t have a table.
So why did this make it to the internet? Why am I telling you about my boring food choices and lack of furniture? And while we’re asking questions, where are all the dang dinner parties? Isn’t this blog about dinner parties?
That’s the thing.
I’ve got pages upon notebook pages of party ideas. I’ve got pinterest boards and cookbooks and bookmarks with enough recipes for breakfast/lunch/dinner for the rest of my life. I plan on throwing a fraction of the parties (when I have a dinner table) and preparing some of the recipes (especially if they include figs or goat cheese or beets or bourbon).
But today, this simple life with simple foods is my favorite ever. It sounds really selfish, but I only have to worry about myself and what I want. It’s rare and won’t last forever and I know it, so I’m focusing on this feeling. ‘Cause it feels pretty awesome.
P.S. Internet, I didn’t mean to criticize. Your popsicles and infused oils are really really nice. Keep doing what you’re doing.
