Today we’re having an internet party with Denise from the blog Bake, Anything. She joins us from Singapore, where she is a pastry chef by day and cookbook writer and photographer by night. A mutual friend shared her blog with me, and I was immediately smitten with its style: clean, simple photos, tried and true recipes, and beautiful musings on life. Here, Denise shares her thoughts on the perfect dinner party.
Describe your ultimate dinner party: My ultimate dinner party would be a potluck with friends, new and old. Nothing speaks character more than having people bring their own dishes, be creative and share it with everyone else.
You’re having friends for dinner this Friday. What’s your go to dish?: I’d bring this pasta (pictured above). It’s a versatile dish. I really like making a mouthwatering, yet soulful and simple dish for people. Ready made pastas are available everywhere, so making and hand slicing the dough adds a personal touch. Toss it in some lovely olive oil, fresh vegetables from your favourite vendor and shred some cheese on. It’s that easy!
What inspires your dishes?: Things that inspire my dishes are what’s available in the fresh markets. I adore a bag of bright saccharine sweet oranges on a hot day, dark crunchy kale, and chubby heirloom tomatoes so ripe they fall off the vine when you pick them.
Can you tell us a little about your cookbook?: My cookbook will feature heartwarming dishes that I’ve discovered over the years through traveling, working in bakeries/cafes, and being vegan, paired with traditional meals my family made. A friend and I are collaborating our passions as Asian and Frenchfood writers and stylists. We’re being dynamic yet grounded as individuals to produce a book filled with personal recipes and stories. The book is due to come out in February of 2014.
